Philips Electronics and
the Orchard Hotel in Singapore have signed a S$1.5 million deal to equip 360 guestrooms and suites with 32” LCD TVs.
This deal marks a first for the hospitality industry in Singapore, as many hotels undergo upgrading with expectations of improved occupancy after the past lean years.
With 32” LCD TVs in non-suite guest rooms, the Orchard Hotel is
setting a new bar for Singapore’s hospitality industry in the area of in-room entertainment. A 32” LCD TV costs
more then double a widescreen 32” CRT TV.
Instead of bulky cabinets to house traditional CRT TVs,
the Orchard Hotel is also upgrading its rooms, getting rid of the TV cabinets and will wall-mount its new LCD TVs.
Without the TV cabinets, guests will get to enjoy a larger space within the room. Apart from a bigger screen and better picture quality, guests can also connect their
notebooks to the LCD TVs for a much bigger screen to surf the net or play computer games. The business traveller with an important business pitch the next morning
will also find the large LCD screen ideal for practicing his Powerpoint presentation.
"We are delighted to strengthen our business relationship with Philips through this bulk purchase of the latest in-room entertainment LCD TVs, as we equip the entire
hotel with these sets to reinforce our reputation as an upmarket trend-setting Millennium & Copthorne property by the time our upgrading is completed later this year",
says Mr Eric Brand, General Manager of Orchard Hotel Singapore.
Mr Mourad Mankarios, Chairman and CEO of Philips Electronics Singapore, remarked, “Our brand promise to customers such as the Orchard Hotel is Sense and
Simplicity. I think having large screen LCD TVs in the rooms makes perfect sense for the guests. And we have incorporated special hotel-related features into these LCD
TVs that make them simple to operate, both for the hotel’s guests and for Orchard Hotel.”
