American Airlines Cargo division
is to decrease its fuel surcharge from $0.55/kg to $0.50/kg for most U.S.-origin international shipments, and from
$0.22/lb to $0.20/lb for U.S. domestic shipments, effective December 1, 2005. The fuel surcharge decrease will be applied on surcharges rated on a per kg/lb basis only. In
addition, the fuel surcharge decrease will be applied in local currency, for most non-U.S.-origin shipments, unless the adjustment is not allowed for regulatory reasons.
Changes to
American's fuel surcharge occur when the index equals, exceeds or falls below a specified fuel threshold for two consecutive weeks. The current fuel index reached
171.68 for the week ending November 11, 2005, passing the reduction trigger point of 187 for the second week.
The fuel index is based upon an average of the five jet-fuel spot markets.
