Accor
is to manage its second Sofitel in Hangzhou, with the planned launch of the five-star Sofitel Xanadu Resort at the end of 2005.
Sofitel Xanadu Resort
is expected to open in time to celebrate China’s 2006 World Leisure Expo, with the new resort selected to provide the main theme garden for the gala
international event.
In addition to being one of China’s most popular tourist destinations for both local and international travelers, Hangzhou is also one of the country’s premier venues for
conferences, incentives and functions. Hangzhou is also fast becoming the leading industrial city for the progressive Zhejiang Province.
The new Sofitel Xanadu Resort will be centrally located in the Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou, just 15 kms from China’s most famous and beautiful lake – the Xi Hu or
West Lake. Hangzhou International Airport is also situated just 10km from the resort to ensure timely and convenient transfers for Sofitel guests.
The resort-style Sofitel Xanadu is being developed by local property developer, the Zhejiang Wanda Group, and will cover an extensive 120 hectares of land. The resort
and real estate development will feature a 305 room hotel, 140 villas, a business and conference centre including outlets to cater for up to 1,100 people, a bar and
restaurants. Leisure facilities such as a swimming pool and health centre will also be available.
The hotel will target conference and leisure business, as well as corporate travellers visiting nearby commercial areas.
For the Chinese, Hangzhou is one of the country’s most famous tourist destinations, endorsed as far back as the 13th century by explorer Marco Polo who claimed the
city was “one of the world’s most splendid”. Today, visitors find plenty of natural and man-made attractions in the city with the Hangzhou Zoo featuring Manchurian
tigers, and several interesting museums including the China Silk Museum, the China Tea Museum and the Chinese Medicine Museum.
