Television
viewers in the UAE will soon be able to pause their favourite programmes and resume watching without missing any of the action when the latest satellite receiver
technology is launched by Dubai-based Selevision.
The company’s Digital Satellite Receivers, scheduled to be launched in the UAE
and Saudi Arabia in June, are set to alter regional viewing habits forever by giving
viewers complete control over what they watch - and when.
The 80 GB hard drive ‘set top boxes’ act as a digital video recorder with 60 hours of recording capacity, and even allow users to record two programmes on different
channels at the same time.
Dr Raed R Khusheim, CEO and president of Selevision,
said, “With more than 100 satellite television channels available in the Middle East, there has never been so
much choice before over what to watch. Utilising the latest technology, we are launching a new satellite receiver that will actually increase viewer choice.
“At the moment when two programmes on different channels clash, viewers have to choose which one to watch. Using a Selevision receiver, they can watch one and
record the other so neither is missed.”
The ability to pause programmes, including live broadcasts such as sports matches, means viewers no longer have to miss any of the action.
“If you receive an important phone call, or even just want to make a cup of coffee, you can press pause and continue watching at your own convenience without missing
a second of the programme you are watching,” Dr Khusheim explained.
The UAE is the first market in the Middle East for Selevision, and the company expects to supply 800,000 homes in the UAE and Saudi Arabia with its technology within
the next 12 months.
Selevision’s ‘set top boxes’ also act as an Internet browser, fax and answering machine - providing a complete home communications service.
They will be available in the UAE and Saudi Arabia from June for a monthly subscription of just AED5 or SR5 (a deposit is required), with the Selevision technology and
all its advanced functionality available free of charge.
“Whether you watch free-to-air channels or subscribe to a satellite pay-TV network, upgrading to a Selevision satellite receiver offers a range of viewing possibilities
never seen in this region before,” Dr Khusheim said.
